"If possible, Herzfeld's records were even more badly recorded than McCarthy's records. I tried to use keyboards as well as guitars. They weren't very dance-orientated however. It wasn't that different from McCarthy."

The bourgeoisie and the petty bourgeoisie have armed themselves against the rising proletariat with, among other things, 'culture.' Itıs an old ploy of the bourgeoisie.
They keep a standing 'art' to defend their collapsing culture.

JOHN HEARTFIELD

"People sometimes pointed out that in McCarthy songs, the lyrics were often at odds with the music. So that a fairly harsh lyric, for instance, came with a fairly sweet and tuneful music. With Herzfeld I wanted to take this a step further, and have the music participate more actively in the whole entreprise. I wanted the music to make comments on the lyrics, to take the piss out of it, or contradict it. This was of course a tall order, and unfortunately, my musical talents weren't always up to the task. Nonetheless we did a few good songs, I'd like to think, which will now remain in my cupboard."
